The past few weeks we have had few new rivers listed on anglers.is. Among them are salmon rivers like Mýrarkvisl, Brynjudalsa, Laxa in Dolum and Laxa in Refasveit. All of them are very good river, rivers that is worth visiting. I like to mention one river especially, River Laxa in Refasveit.
River Laxa in Dölum is one of the best salmon river in Iceland. The average catch pr. rod is among the highest in Iceland. Laxa is only fished with 4-6 rods. It is about 25 km long so anglers have lot of space for them selves. The Laxa river in Dölum is a medium sized river with a fair volume of fish and numerous multi-winter salmons are caught every year.
The brown trout in Lake Þingvallavatn, whose origin can be traced to Britain, has long been one of the most talked-about freshwater fish in Iceland - and abroad. The brown trout's fame is based primarily on its large size and great numbers. In september the trout goes up in to the river Oxara to spawn - here are few great pictures taken these this weekend in and at the river Oxara.
This angling season has been great here in Iceland. Salmon fishing has been excellent and many rivers has had a record summer. Over all, this summer is among the best we have had in salmon fishing. This season has also been very good in trout and Charr fishing. It has been a rainy summer so the water level has been very good.
River Vatnsdalsa is known for its large salmon here in Iceland. Since 1997 the major salmon beats of the river has been fished by fly only and all fish will be released back into the river. The policy of C&R has helped the river to produce a larger proportion of large salmon, that is common here in Iceland. In september each year, many salmon that range from 90-110 sm, is caught. The start of the salmon season in Iceland has been very strong this summer and things are looking good. In Thvera/Kjarta the opening group landed over 50 salmon in Three days and In Laxa in Kjos River, 20 salmon was caught in 1,5 days. Simular stories can be told all over the country. Lake Thingvallavatn opened up for anglers on the first of May. The first few days has been great for those who has been fishing for trout in the lake. Some great bown trout has been caught and here are few of them.
Huseyjakvisl River are known for very big sea trout - one of the monsters was caught yesterday.
