Nestled within the picturesque landscapes of Iceland, Mýrarkvísl boasts a unique blend of tranquility and excitement for anglers of all levels. This relatively small river is renowned for its abundant stock of brown trout, complemented by exhilarating runs of Atlantic salmon throughout the summer months.

Stretching through the plains of the Reykjaheiði plateau for its initial 15 kilometers, Mýrarkvísl offers the perfect setting for dry fly fishing. As the river winds its way through a captivating canyon, its power increases, providing anglers with the thrilling opportunity to spot their elusive targets. Finally, as the river meanders its way down the plains by Laxamýri and into the Laxá in Aðaldal, approximately 5 kilometers from the ocean, anglers encounter an environment rich in diversity and teeming with fishing prospects.

Whether you’re casting small flies across the plains, employing hitch flies, or engaging in sight fishing within the canyon pools, Mýrarkvísl promises an unforgettable experience. With the fishing season kicking off on April 1st for brown trout, anglers can expect to reel in impressive numbers, often averaging 10-15 catches a day during peak season.

While June sees the beginning of salmon runs, it’s July when the excitement truly peaks. As the salmon numbers surge, anglers are treated to an exhilarating fishing spectacle. The prime time for brown trout fishing extends from June 1st to July 20th, transitioning seamlessly into the salmon-focused months of August and September.

As autumn sets in, the larger brown trout become increasingly territorial, presenting anglers with ample opportunities to land impressive catches using salmon flies. Moreover, fishing permits for Mýrarkvísl also include access to Lake Langavatn, providing anglers with additional options for exploration and adventure.

Lake Langavatn, in particular, offers a delightful setting for families, boasting a diverse range of fishing options, including fly, spin, or bait fishing for small arctic char and sizeable brown trout.

With its varied landscapes, abundant fish stocks, and unparalleled fishing experiences, Mýrarkvísl stands as a haven for anglers seeking the ultimate adventure in Icelandic fly fishing. So, pack your gear, immerse yourself in nature, and prepare for an unforgettable fishing expedition along the captivating waters of Mýrarkvísl.
