Arnarvatnsheidi highland area
Fishing in the highland areas in Iceland are very popular, both for local anglers and also for anglers that come to Iceland from all over the world. We have few highland areas, but Arnarvatnsheidi highland area is maybe the most popular one. The Arnarvatnsheidi is a huge moorland with lakes, streams and rivers that provide fabulous trout fishing and is framed with a stunning panorama of mountain ranges and glaciers with the most notable one being the Eiríksjökull glacier. The fishing season at Arnarvatnsheidi usually starts around June 20th and ends in the end of August.
Big part of the Arnarvatnsheidi highland area is accessible on foot or on modified 4*4 jeep. The rivers, lakes and streams that are up on the highland area is full of good size brown trout and arctic char. Fishing changes through the season, with the weeks of July being the most popular time. Most anglers fly fish but spin fishing and worm fishing is also allowed.
In the highland area we have few huts and small cabins that anglers can rent, but many anglers choose to stay in tents in the area.
