Its neighboring sister fall, Granni, enhances the dramatic scene, making it a popular natural landmark for hikers and photographers. River Fossa is the River, approximately 120 km from Reykjavik.

River Fossa is split into 2 beats or areas. The upper part is nearly 15 km long, from Háifoss waterfall at the top and down to Hjalparfoss below. The lower part is much shorter, only 1.5km long. It is mainly a salmon area.
