Salmon fishing in Iceland in 2026

Our salmon fishing season here in Iceland came to an end in October. Most rivers closes in September, but few are open into middle of October. Our salmon fishing was a mixed bag here in Iceland, with some salmon rivers on the north and north-west part of the Island struggling with low water, but most other rivers were close to last year catch numbers or even above them. Now we are starting to plan next fishing season, 2026.

Salmon packages and single days in Iceland 2026

If you’re planning a salmon-fishing trip to Iceland in 2026, Anglers.is offers a very good range of options — from full-service, multi-day lodges on premium rivers to more budget-friendly rivers and self-guided trips. The key variables will be river choice, season timing, guiding vs. self-guided, and accommodation standard. With proper planning you can tailor a great experience.

Season & Timing

  • The formal salmon season: Starts early June (some rivers around June 20–24) and ends in late September. A few go into October.

  • Prime time (best chances) is mid-July to late August. Some autumn rivers peak later (late August into September) depending on river. If you want cheaper options, consider early season (late June) or later season (September) where permits are more available and costs may be lower.
