Laugardalsa River

Location: Westfjords (420 km from Reykjavik, domestic flight recommended)
Fishing season: June 15th to August 31st
Prime time: July 1st to August 10th
Average size of fish: 6,5 lbs.
Guide: Can be arranged.
Tackle: Single handed rods 9-10”, weight 6-8, floating

Best flies

Laugardalsá is almost two different rivers, on the lower half the current is fast and pools can be quite rocky, but on the upper half the current is slower and the pools deeper. Heavier flies can be effective on the lower half (no bigger than ½ inch tubes though), on the upper half smaller flies and hitch tubes are very effective.
Black & Red Frances (sizes 12-16, also micro cones and ¼ – 1 inch tubes)
Blue Charm (sizes 12 – 18)
Black & Blue (sizes 14-18, also micro cones and ¼ – 1 inch tubes)
Collie Dog (1 – 1½ inch)
Hairy Mary (sizes 14 – 16)
Hitch tubes: Green Butt, micro Tubes, riffling hitch tubes and Blue Rat
