Vatnamotin
Location: South coast, close to town Kirkjubæjarklaustur. 285 km from Reykjavik
Season: April 1st – October 10th
Prime time: Spring and Autumn.
Extent: approx 2 km long junction area.
Average catch: Approx 1500 Trout each season. Many fish over 8 pounds.

About the area
Vatnamotin area are maybe the best sea trout area in Iceland, with between 1.200 and 1.800 sea trout caught each season. Vatnamotin is a junction area where both a glacier river and clear water rivers come to gether – it is only few km from the sea.
Spring and autumn is the main time for Vatnamotin. We catch many fish between 5 and 12 pounds in this area and few as big as 20 pounds. Anglers need to wade in a sandy bottom to cover this area that is mostly fished with streamers, but also nymphs. Rods, #6-7 are good for this area, weight forward lines. Sink tips are often used. Dbl handed rods can also come in handy to cover water.
Vatnamotin area is a wide, big area and anglers sometimes need to cover some water to find the fish – they often stay in channels and sometimes in big groups.
