The Laxa in Asum River estuary was fished for the first time in the 2012 season and it did not disappoint. As Laxa in Asum flows into the sea it comes together with Vatnsdalsa, a much more famous char and trout river but after this summer it is quite clear that there is plenty of char and trout in Laxa in Asum.
LAXA IN ASUM ESTUARY
Amazed with the power of the arctic char, many anglers were left wordless while the 3-5 pound char ripped out all the fly line well into the backing without making a stop. The arctic char is a fish that not many foreign anglers come to Iceland to fish but we think that will change soon since there are no better fighters pound for pound then the sea run arctic char, and they taste simply divine. There were a fair number of sea trout caught last season, the biggest around 10 pounds but a couple of monsters got lost, fish about and above 20 pounds, simply angry old fish that left the angler shaking and screaming.
Fished with two rods it is a perfect side project with the Laxa in Asum itself or Fremri Laxa since which is also fished when ever you want. The best fishing is when the tide is flowing in so you sometimes simply have to fish over night. But do not worry. This is Iceland and it does not get dark but the feeling fishing in the middle of the night and seeing the sun go down and come up in the same minute while playing a crazy arctic char is an experience you will not forget.
Lodging
The lodge is a cozy three room cabin, equipped with everything you need, including a hot tub, situated just 3 minutes from the estuary which you can see from the lodge and start looking forward casting your fly for the fish of you dreams.
Midnight Fishing
There is nothing like fishing for sea run arctic char in the middle of the night at the coast of this never dark Atlantic island.
