About the river
Hítará has been one of the most popular salmon fishing rivers in Iceland and has sold out year after year. The yearly catch has been good throughout the years and the river is extremely seasonable for groups and families.
The fishing areas Breiðin and Kverk are right by the lodge and it’s fun to watch other fishermen fighting salmon in front of the lodge. Fishing spots in Hítará are diverse and access to them is good. Included in the permit is access to the lovely fishing lodge. Hítará is magnificent and the scenery is absolutely breathtaking. The river is extremely well suited for fly fishing, especially with Hitch flies. The river is great for single-handed rods equipped with floating lines. The salmon is often small, but in between lurk some large ones.
Hitara Lodge
The fishing lodge for Hítará I is the historical house Lundur. It’s equipped with everything needed for fishermen. The lodge accommodation includes full hotel like service, meals, linen, ready made beds and towels. The bed sheets are changed daily and all cleaning services are included in the price.
A new 6 bedroom building has been constructed instead of the old house. The lodge has been furnished with impressive facilities for fishermen where each permit has a private twin bedroom with access to a private toilet and a shower.
