About the river
Upper Laxa a Asum is without a doubt one of Iceland’s best trout river. The abundance of trout over the summer months can just be overwhelming. You can practically catch as many as you want.
The Lodge: The lodge included is a rustic old fishing lodge which can accomodate six anglers in total. It is on the bank of Fremri Laxá overlooking a beautiful waterfall. Situated strategically on the lower side of the river, the fishing is only minutes away. It is also possible to include a newer house, that is maybe more fitting for groups that include non fishing anglers and families.
Although not the biggest in Iceland, the trouts in Fremri Laxá are quite hard fighters and love taking the dry fly in the midnight sun. There are only 3 rods that fish the river, and with average catch over 5000 trout per year you can imagine the feast when the hatches come up! We have decided to let anglers fish whenever they feel like during the 24 hours of sunlight each day, but never over 12 hours in total though.
It is a hard thing describing the fishing itself. It is something you will have to experience yourself. But the river, like its much more famous sister Laxa a Ásum itself, is small and fragile but holds extremely aggressive fish. It holds crystal clear water and the best fishing is often near the top were there is a dam or near the bottom where it flows into Laxárvatn lake. There are a fair number of salmon caught in Fremri Laxá each year so that can be a fun side catch but anglers come here for the trout and there is plenty of it for everybody.
